The
North Jetty (view map
) and it's surrounding beaches and park are not in Venice it's true.
Maybe that's why the difference between them is like night and day. While
around the South Jetty the fishing is poor, and the
surrounding area is crowded with businesses, overly aggressive police officers,
employee parking from a nearby restaurant, local government intrusion, tourists,
snowbirds and rich retirees with their no trespassing signs - the North Jetty
has good fishing, wooded, secluded areas that border on the Inter Coastal
Waterway (the "Snook Alley" section), a productive jetty and just
like it's sister jetty to the south, lots of Gulf of Mexico beach.
The casual and natural environment - the birds around the North Jetty hunt for their food instead of beg, see above photo - are what make this area a wonderful place to fish. People who like to drink and smoke like this park better too. It is allowed here. It's completely legal at the county park at the south Jetty as well but if you drink there the police will . . .well just don't try it.
No fishing spot is perfect and I'm not trying to make the North Jetty area sound like a utopia, here's some things that some people make not like about it:
